Max Povse turned in another great pitching performance tonight, looking very confident, and moving to 4-0 on the year. The only hit he allowed was a hard hit shot up the middle by Cary's cleanup hitter (Percy Evans). Max actually got his glove on it, but it defected off and settled behind the mound with Evans beating 2B Grant Shambley's throw to first. Povse ended up going the distance, 7 innings, allowing only the 1 hit, striking out 10, and walking 3 batters. Max got stronger, and more determined, as the game progressed, striking out 7 of the last 10 batters he faced tonight.

But as good as Povse was, Cary's pitcher (Eric Pilecki) was holding Cary in the game, for almost 5 innings. In 4 2/3 innings, Pilecki had struckout 8 GH batters, and only allowed 2 hits, but both were doubles, and GH was up 2-0 since the first inning. In that 1st inning, Shambley led off with a walk, was balked to 2nd, and scored on Eric Brady's double. Brady then stole 3rd, and scored on a past ball, GH up 2-0 after 1 inning.

The pitching duel ended in the bottom of the 5th, a lead off walk to Matt Nusbaum, was followed by a sacrifice bunt from Anthony Colantino, moving Nusbaum to second. After a strikeout, Shambley one hopped the left field wall for a double, driving in Matt, and then Brady hit a monster shot to dead center for a 2-run home run, which ended Pilecki's day, and gave GH a 5-0 lead.

GH scored 3 more in the 6th, as Nolan Poythress walked, Adam Boghosian doubled scoring Poythress, Brent McLeroy singled scoring Boghosian, and after McLeroy stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on a ground out, David Josam hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring McLeroy. GH 8-0 final. Interesting, was that GH had only 6 hits, but 4 were doubles (Shambley, Brady, Pistacchio, Boghosian) and Brady's home run.

Once again GH's defense was virtually flawless, which really helped Povse out throughout the game. Brady at short made a couple of nice plays, along with Shambley at 2nd, and Poythress at 3rd. Boghosian made a diving catch in right, but really he misjudged that fly, still a nice recovery to make the catch.

GH moves to 4-0 and alone at the top of the Tri-9, 9-1 on the year, but travels to one of three second place teams in Fuquay Varina (3-1) on Thursday.
