Green Hope wins Cossa Memorial game, 10-0 over Southeast Raleigh

The Matt Cossa Memorial game is always a difficult game to play, because so much of the focus is not about baseball, but remembering Matt, his story, raising money to fight cancer, and having fun. So the intensity of the game is somewhat muted and more respectful than in other games. This is the third year of the event, and Southeast Raleigh has played in all three. The event raised $12,000 the first year, $22,000 the second, and roughly $27,000 this year.

The game went well for GH, everyone got to play some, and GH scored 3 in the 2nd and 7 in the 3rd, to win the game via the 10 run rule in the 5th. Daniel Sondag started for GH, pitched the first 4 innings, allowed only 1 hit which was a bunt, struckout 3, and hit a batter. Daniel had good control today, and SER never really threatened him. Nolan Poythress pitched the 5th, and looked good, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

Hitting wise, Eric Brady had 2 singles and double which the SER CF lost in the sun. Max Povse had 2 doubles, one of which also was lost in the sun by the SER CF. Grant Shambley had a single and a double, and Tyler Jones and Jonathan Grudee each had a single for GH.

So GH moves to 14-2, with big conference games next week against both 2nd place conference foes - at Middle Creek and at Fuquay Varina - and ending with Panther Creek.
