Green Hope uses it's depth for "come from behind" victory over Leesville 8-5
Max Povse started for Green Hope
Adam Boghosian pitched well
Max Povse started for GH, and cruised in his first two innings, throwing 75% strikes, not allowing a base runner. But he started the 3rd with a walk, then after a fly out, a single, and a hit batter, had the bases loaded with 1 out. Facing LR's number 2 batter, he blew him away with 3 straight strikes. However, LR's number 3 hitter, and starting pitcher Chris Kelly, followed with a double to the clear the bases, putting LR up 3-1 after 3 innings. Adam Boghosian pitched the next 2 innings for GH, effectively shutting down LR, not allowing a run, but it was still Leesville up 3-1 in the 5th inning.
Shambley takes 3rd on passed ball
LR's pitchers - Chris Kelly and Chris Beejs - had held GH to only 1 run in 4 innings - which was scored in the 1st by a leadoff single by Grant Shambley, and a RBI double from Joe Pistacchio. But GH added a run in the 5th, kind of a gift, after a 2-out single by Shambley, who reached 3rd via a wild pitch and passed ball, and scored on a throwing error by LR's shortstop on a routine ground ball off the bat of Eric Brady.
Matt Nusbaum starts the come back in the 6th
David Josam keeps it going with bunt single
But GH hitters started to zero in on Beejs' slow curveball, now down 5-2 in the bottom of the 6th, Matt Nusbaum came off the bench to start the come back with a rip leadoff single, followed by Nolan Poythress who also singled sharply. LR replaced Beejs with Greg Kirk, but GH responded with Jeff Weygandt's hard hit grounder up the middle which Kirk fielded cleanly, but his throw to 2nd was dropped to load the bases for Adam Boghosian. Bogo ripped a single to score 2 and David Josam laid down a bunt which stopped on the 1st base line for another hit. Shambley singled for another run, and Brady ripped one between the legs of a drawn in 1st baseman driving in 2 more runs. Nusbaum, who started the 6-run uprising, finished it off with another ripped single to drive in the last GH run. GH 8-5 after 6 innings.
Nolan Poythress - one of his 6 assists
Poythress (1-0) gets the win, and Pistacchio, who closed out the 7th, gets the save.
But again - Green Hopes's defense outplayed LR's on a hard infield - Poythress who had 6 assists, along with Brady, Shambley, and Jonathan Grudee outplayed LR's infield which probably was the difference in the game. Also Boghosian in right field, navigated the impossible sun field, only losing one ball in it, which luckily was foul. Close games are won by better defense, and that's what happened tonight.
Green Hope moves to 2-0
