Povse's pitching helps Green Hope beat New Bern in 2nd scrimmage
Another strong scrimmage for Green Hope, as sophomore Max Povse started, allowed only 1 hit in 3 scoreless innings, and looked to be the best pitcher on the field today, as GH beat New Bern 5-1. GH Junior, Joe Pistacchio, pitched the last inning, and also looked very strong on the mound to close out the game.
Grant Shambley and Eric Brady demonstrated why they are batting first and second in the lineup, as they both executed perfect leadoff bunts for singles, and later scored. In the first, after Shambley's leadoff bunt single, and Brady's regular single, Pistacchio ripped a double down the left field line to give GH a quick 2-0 lead after 1 inning. Brady drove in GH's 3rd run in the second, hitting into a fielder's choice which scored a run. GH 3-0 after 3 innings.
Nolan Poythress pitched the 4th and 5th innings, and only gave up 1 run, on a 1st and 3rd steal play, where GH got the base runner on 1st out while the runner on 3rd scored. That happened in the top of the 5th to make the score 3-1, but GH answered in the bottom of the 5th with 2 runs. Brady's leadoff bunt single was followed by an RBI double from Michael Sondag, and then a bloop, sun aided, RBI double from Poythress.
Overall, a very solid game by the Falcons, who are looking good in the pre-season !!!
