"Hot" Boghosian overcomes the cold and South Johnston in scrimmage

Adam Boghosian hit a 3-Run Home Run, drove in another run with a single, and pitched a scoreless inning, as Green Hope beat South Johnston 5-3 in the last pre-season scrimmage of 2009. Green Hope has gone 3-0 in the pre-season this year.

This game started in cold weather, and it just got colder with every pitch. Both pitching staffs hit numerous batters, totaling into the double digits for the 6 innings played. There were also alot of walks and strikeouts as both teams struggled to get into a playing grove given the temperature.

One player who overcame the weather was GH's Boghosian. After a scoreless 1st inning, GH scored 3 in the 2nd. Brent McLeroy singled, then David Josam executed such a good sacrifice bunt that he easily beat it out for a single, and Boghosian blasted one through the cold air and over the fence for a HR. GH 3-0 after 2 innings.

Joe Pistacchio pitched the first two innings, and Max Povse pitched the next two innings, and each had multiple strikeouts and multiple walks (I believe it was 3 walks and 3 strikeouts each). Neither looked as comfortable as they did last Saturday in much warmer settings. Still Pistacchio allowed no runs, and Povse allowed only one unearned run, plated via his throwing error and 3 walks.

In the bottom of the 4th, GH added a run via Grant Shambley being hit by a pitch, a walk, a bloop single to right by Povse to load the bases, and a walk to Nolan Poythress to force in a run. GH 4-1 after 4 innings.

In the 5th, Boghosian came into pitch, allowing no runs and striking out the side, but giving up a double and a walk inbetween. Bogo then singled in the last GH run in the bottom of the innning, his 4th RBI of the game. GH 5-1 after 5 innings.

Finally, Michael Sondag closed out the game in the 6th, allowing 2 runs on only one hit - a walk, sac, strikeout, single, HBP, stolen base, 1st and 3rd steal play. In the bottom of the inning, Sondag got a bloop double for his second of the game, giving him 2 HRs and 3 doubles in the 3 pre-season games this year.

So a great pre-season for Green Hope !!!
