Green Hope shows up to play and crushes Webb 14-4 in 5 innings

As Chapel Hill players and parents arrived for the Hilltop Championship game, many wondered how a Green Hope team which played so badly yesterday was playing so well today. Clearly the best offensive and defensive game of the year by the Falcons, against a Webb team which also played well early, but just ran out of pitching against Green Hope.

Boghosian HR Boghosian HR Boghosian ledoff the game for Green Hope with a home run

Max Povse started for Green Hope, and he also pitched well, starting the game with 6 strikes and an easy 1-2-3 inning. Green Hope got going immediately in the bottom of the 1st, as Adam Boghosian was moved to leadoff, and produced a home run to left. That was followed by a double by Grant Shambley, and another home run by Will Yoder to make it 3-0 Green Hope after 1 inning.

Yoder HR Yoder HR Yoder also homered in the 1st to give Green hope a 3-0 lead

Webb responded in the second with a home run of their own by cleanup hitter Zach Morris, cutting the lead to 3-1. Both teams made great defensive plays early, including a nice play by Luca Scelsi on a grounder to get the first out of the inning. But a walk and a double by Steven Hill had runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. A fly to right which could have dropped for a double was caught by Joe Pistacchio on another nice play, but easily scored the runner from 3rd to make it Green Hope up 3-2 after 2 innings.

Pistacchio double Grudee out Grudee Out Bottom of the 1st had Pistacchio's hit go for a double (left) while Grudee's shot was caught (middle and right)

Green Hope broke the game open in the third, Pistacchio ledoff with a walk, followed by a single from David Josam, and a sacrifice bunt from Jonathan Grudee which he beatout, had the bases loaded with no outs. Brendon Lynch singled to drive in 1 run, followed by another single from Luca Scelsi which drove in 2 runs. Boghosian singled to drive in another run, Shambley walked to reload the bases, and Yoder walked to score the 5th run of the inning.

Pistacchio Catch Shambley Out Second inning had Pistacchio rob Webb of a double, but likewise Shambley is robbed of a double by Webb

A pitching change did little to help Webb, as the new pitcher walked both Wesley Clark and Pitacchio to score two more runs. Josam then tripled to score 3, and a final single from Grudee scored Josam to end the 11 run scoring in the 3rd. Green Hope up 14-2 after 3 innings.

Josam triple Pistacchio no catch Josam's triple scored 3, while Pistacchio couldn't rob Webb of a double in the 5th

Will Gilbert came in to pitch the 4th, and did a good job, threw alot of strikes, and had a decent curve ball to keep the batters off balance. Boghosian finished the game, but gave up 2 runs as a one out error on a fly ball to left was followed by a double down the right field line, with the batter making 3rd on some bad relay throws. A groundout to first scored the runner, making the final score Green Hope 14-4 in 5 innings.

Povse (1-1) gets the win in the inning shortened game, and Green Hope moves back to .500 at 5-5. Next week will be an important one for the Falcons as they need to string together some good performances instead of one good game followed by one bad game as they've done all season.
