Green Hope beats Apex 3-2 for a crucial win in their home opener
Probably a record for latest first home game - March 23rd - but the Falcons took advantage of that last at bat to score the winning run in the bottom of the 7th for the 3-2 victory. The game was close throughout, and Green hope never led until the game was over.
Pistacchio (left) and Sondag (right) held Apex to only 5 singles

With a strong wind blowing out, it could have been a high scoring game, but Green Hope starter Joe Pistacchio and Apex's Ben Scerri both pitched well during their 4 innings on the mound. After two no-hit innings, Apex was able to get an unearned run in the third. Apex's Harry Voorhees got the first hit of the game, a ground single through to left. Voorhees was sacrificed (bunt) to 2nd and reached 3rd on a grounder hit by Sean Buchanan between 3rd and SS, Grant Shambley made a nice play on the ball, but couldn't throw out Buchanan, who advanced to 2nd hoping to get into a run down to score Voorhees now at 3rd, but was just allowed to take the base. However a two out infield grounder was booted allowing Apex to take the 1-0 lead.

Without a hit, Apex added another unearned run in the 4th inning, Kyle Tighe got on base by another infield error, stole 2nd, was sacrificed (bunt) to 3rd, and scored on a past ball to give Apex a 2-0 lead.

However, unlike the Fuquay game, Green Hope responded to the adversity, and played with more intensity the rest of the game, while Apex actually had some miscues which hurt them. In the bottom of the 4th, Adam Boghosian hit a high fly to short left field which the left fielder slightly misjudged, calling off the SS, and with the wind blowing the ball to center, had to dive to make the catch, but failed, putting Boghosian at first. A wild pickoff attempt to 1st had Boghosian racing around the bases ending up at 3rd. After a strikeout, Will Yoder, who has been the hottest hitter for Green Hope in the past few games, singled to right to score Green Hope's first run. Yoder also singled in the 6th to boost his team leading average to .545, but after 4 innings, Apex up 2-1.

Green Hope tied the game in the 5th, also without a hit, as Shambley hit a bullet up the middle that hit the Apex pitcher in the chest, he gathered the ball but threw wildly to first, allowing Shambley to reach 2nd. A groundout moved Shambley to 3rd, and a past ball had the game tied at 2-2 after 5 innings.

Daniel Sondag pitched the final 3 innings for Green Hope and was very efficient, inducing ground outs and weak pop ups with very few pitches thrown. He did make one mistake trying to pickoff Apex's Dylan Edwards at 1st, moving Edwards to 2nd, but Apex did not score.
Boghosian wins the game with a shot off the wall in center

Green Hope won it in the 7th, Shambley ledoff with a walk, followed by a strikeout, a single from Wesley Clark, and the winning run scoring single from Boghosian, hitting the 375 foot fence in center (a home run in most fields).
Sondag (1-2) gets the win, both he and Pistacchio pitched very well in what should have been a hitter's game. This win was key because in two days the Falcons host the league leading (and maybe the best) team in the conference in Holly Springs. If Green Hope wants to win the Tri-9, Holly Springs is a team they need to beat to get there, for sure.
